COMUNIDAD DE LENGUA PORTUGUESA_PROYECTO

Portuguese-speaking community

This community was born in 2005 when, during the XX World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany, a Brazilian family met another Brazilian: Father Marcos Rogério, who was studying at the Seminary of Barcelona. From this encounter, the 'Missa Brasil' was born, celebrated once a month at the Parish of Sant Jeroni de Montbau. When Father Marcos returned to his country, other Brazilian priests continued to accompany and celebrate with the group: Father Rodrigo Fraga Santa Anna, Father José Ribeiro, Father José Ricardo Barros de Sales, and Father Luciano Da Costa Masullo.

In 2016, Cardinal Mons. Joan Josep Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, entrusted the pastoral work of the Brazilian-Portuguese community to the recently ordained priest, Rev. Adilson Tolentino, born in Brazil. The community was accompanied by him at the Parish of Sant Ramon de Penyafort (2018) and the Parish of Sant Josep Oriol (2019) until, at the end of 2020, Rev. Adilson Tolentino was appointed rector of the Parish of Our Lady of Bethlehem. At this time, the community expanded to serve Portuguese-speaking Catholics in general.

The community actively participates in catechesis, pastoral care for marriages, and social pastoral care (Caritas). It also collaborates in the 'Caminem junts en la diversitat' project of the Archdiocese of Barcelona. Every year, they celebrate the feasts of Our Lady of Aparecida and Our Lady of Fatima, both very popular devotions in Brazil and Portugal, respectively. The community has a strong presence on social media to interact with its members and in the proclamation of the Word. It is also known for its ministry of music, with rhythmic melodies.

The community has two weekly Eucharistic celebrations in Portuguese: on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7:00 PM. An hour before Mass, the Rosary is recited.
